Electric Car Charging Points

Tecnico are developing a national network of electric vehicle (EV) charging points. EVs are becoming widely available and within three to five years are likely to become the vehicle of choice. To gain full acceptance there needs to be a national charging framework. It is a fallacy that it needs to take 8 hours to charge a car. There are three levels of car chargers:

Level 1: gives a 6-8 hour charge and is ideal for places where cars are parked for long periods such as city and work carparks and motel/hotels
Level 2: gives a 3-4 hour charge (80%) within 1-2 hours. These are ideal for sites where people stop for over an hour such as restaurants, tourist sites and shopping malls.
Level 3: Gives up to a 15 minute charge and is suitable for places people stop for a coffee or snack. This requires a three phase power supply.

Level 1 and 2 chargers can be fitted to the majority of domestic supplies. Early adopters of this technology will gain a significant advantage as EVs become more abundant and they will gain a new captive market within their own target customers.
